Maurizio Segato

Maurizio Segato (IT) lives and works in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
His practice focuses on the ways in which cultural processes inﬂuence the objects and tools that deﬁne our everyday lives. Through reproduction, imitation, and staging, he interrogates the modes of production, circulation, and inﬂuence surrounding them, questioning the roles they assume in constructing domestic space as much as in shaping collective memory.
Working across installation, video, and sculpture, his approach explores the possibilities of rewriting and at times betraying the materials and documents from which he draws, exposing values and social constructs inscribed within them as well as within the processes that have shaped them.
Segato studied at IUAV University of Venice and at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam, where he is completing an MFA. His work has been presented at Kunstinstituut Melly, Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Nam Nam Space in Tokyo, Panorama Venezia and Fabrica Research Centre among others.
