VACANCY: TEMPORARY PRODUCTION ASSISTANT (X/F/M)

ABOUT JESTER

Jester is a development and presentation platform for contemporary visual art located at the C-mine site in Genk. We provide artists with the time, space and support they need to experiment, conduct research and further develop their practice.

Exhibitions and residencies are at the heart of our organisation, supported by our in-house workshops. At Jester, artists have access to professionally equipped facilities for activities including woodworking and metalworking.

THE ROLE

As a production assistant, you will provide practical support to artists in residence as they realise their projects, and help install exhibitions.

You will work closely with our two regular production staff members, the director, the residency coordinator, the curator and the artists in residence. Jester is a small organisation, so the work is varied and you will sometimes need to adapt quickly.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Assisting with the preparation and installation of exhibitions
- Providing practical support to artists in residence as they realise their projects
- Working in the wood, metal and/or ceramics workshops
- Carrying out a variety of technical and production-related tasks
- Handling materials, tools and facilities with care
- Communicating clearly and professionally with artists and colleagues
- Responding flexibly and constructively to unexpected situations

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for someone who enjoys making things, thinks practically and takes good care of the workplace.

You:

- Have basic skills in construction, installation and assembly work
- Have a basic knowledge of woodworking and metalworking
- Work safely and accurately, with respect for materials and facilities
- Are motivated to learn
- Can work independently and function well within a small team
- Can adapt quickly when plans or priorities change
- Communicate clearly and professionally
- Speak Dutch and have a basic knowledge of English
- Are passionate about the craft and take satisfaction in bringing projects to life

Previous professional experience is not required. Experience with exhibition installation, workshop practice or working within an arts organisation is an asset.

A driving licence is not required but is considered an asset.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

- A temporary employment contract for two months
- Two working days per week
- Working days to be agreed upon, between Monday and Thursday
- Remuneration according to PC 329.01 - cultuurspreiding, taking relevant seniority into account
- A varied role within a small arts organisation
- The opportunity to work with artists and gain experience in residencies, workshops and exhibition production
- A workplace with professionally equipped wood and metal workshops at the C-mine site in Genk

Students are welcome to apply. If the relevant conditions are met, employment may be arranged under a student contract. We expect candidates to commit to two days per week throughout the entire period, with both working days falling between Monday and Thursday.
