Ingel Vaikla

Ingel Vaikla (1992, Tallinn) is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Brussels. She mainly works with video, 16mm film and found footage. Vaikla's artistic practice focuses on the representation of modernist architecture and the relationship between places and communities. She is constantly looking for a visual language that can convey the existential, conceptual and ideological qualities of architecture, beyond its aesthetic sculptural appearance.
During the Jester Opening Weekend in November 2023, a selection of Vaikla's work was shown as part of the Jester Film program.
Ingel Vaikla is a former resident of HISK (2018 - 2019) and Wiels Contemporary Art Center (2021). She is currently working on her research doctorate at PXL-MAD/UHasselt. Her works The House Guard, Roosenberg, Double Exposure, Papagalo, What's the Time? and EUR 42 were shown internationally at various film festivals (European Media Art Festival in Osnabrück, Busan International Video Art Festival) and at numerous art institutions: IDFA (Amsterdam), Kunsthalle Wien, EKKM (Tallinn), Beursschouwburg (Brussels), Manifesta 13 (Marseille), Videonale (Bonn), and Tramway (Glasgow).
