In the text and image collages by artist-filmmaker Maryam Tafakory (°Shiraz, Iran), poetry, documentary, archive and found material are intertwined. In doing so, she reflects in a personal and poignant way on the post-revolutionary state of her home country of Iran, with its social constructions and taboos. In doing so, she often touches on topics that are usually experienced as trivial or as transgressive.

Maryam Tafakory presented a number of her short films at the first edition of Jester Film (April 2023).

Tafakory's work has been exhibited extensively internationally, including at festivals such as the MoMA Doc Fortnight festival, IFFR (Rotterdam), True/False Film Fest (Columbia, US), and places such as MIMA (Brussels), Pergamon Museum (Berlin), MHKA (Antwerp), and Anthology Film Archives (NY). She has also received numerous awards, including the Ammodo Tiger Award for Short Film (IFFR), the Gold Hugo Award (Chicago IFF), the Barbara Hammer Feminist Film Award (Ann Arbor Film Festival), and Best Experimental Short Film (Melbourne International Film Festival).
