For Ryota Yahagi, material is a field of possibility that shifts and expands with perception. His practice begins with drawing, creating images that resemble unfamiliar landscapes seen through a microscope or a telescope. He then puts these drawings aside for an extended period, allowing them to slip from immediate memory.
When he returns to them, he looks again with renewed attention and reinterprets each image through a different medium. From this encounter he writes a poem, shaping language around the impressions that surface in the space between remembering and forgetting.
Finally, he gathers these works and installs them as a constellation of forms that question the realities hidden beneath consciousness. Through this unfolding process he pursues what is genuine, discovered not in what he holds onto, but in what emerges after time has altered his sight.
