Many tools in Jester’s workshops are marked ‘FLACC’, inherited from the former Flanders Arts and Crafts Center, which merged with CIAP to form Jester. A pediment-shaped FLACC spirit level served as the positive for a mould used to cast concrete tiles mixed with shredded office paper.
Installed on Jester’s façade, directly beneath the office window, Horizon traces a line that mediates between ground and institution, occupying a position neither strictly vertical nor horizontal. Horizontalism, as an organisational model, seeks to minimise or refuse formal hierarchies by distributing authority rather than concentrating it at the top. The decision to install the work was made by consensus among Jester’s team members during a period without formal leadership, in anticipation of a new director.
