PORTRAIT OF JESTER (AT A YOUNG AGE) door Apparatus 22

Installed on the façade of Jester’s kunsthal, the new LED-neon work is part of Apparatus 22’s long-term series of telegram-like portraits. Rather than depicting appearance, these works capture something less visible: the inner life, collective ethos and shared aspirations of a person, community or institution.

Following a residency at Jester in 2024, Apparatus 22 created a portrait of the organisation itself. The work reflects Jester as a young, fierce and caring art organisation that supports brave artistic practices, opens space for untested possibilities and continues to search, research and transform.

Produced as part of Kunst in Opdracht of the Flemish Government, on the occasion of Jester’s new infrastructure in Genk.
